Who Are We
We continue our commitment to our partners and aim to work together to meet the needs of our students through flexibility, creativity and innovation.
What We Do
Pathways works with SDSU undergraduate and graduate students to provide in-class and after-school support in STEAM education in twenty-five partner schools across the greater San Diego region.
Our Expectations of the Pathways Service Learning Tutor:
- Be punctual and follow their approved schedule:
- Tutors are required to notify teachers and email the Pathways Office prior to tardiness or absence,
- Tutors can request time off for upcoming exams, study sessions, and group projects.
- Tutors are not paid by the school site, they are seen as volunteers in the classrooms and schools.
- They are not to make copies or sit in the back to grade papers. A tutor’s role in the classroom should center on face-to-face interactions with students.
- Tutors set learning goals, self-evaluate, and meet with the Tutor Coach.
- Tutors keep track of their hours each day on paper and then enter it electronically:
- Tutors will request a signature by the teacher or substitute at the end of their tutoring shift.
- Tutors follow the school site dress code and wear their name badge.
How to Best Support Your Tutor:
- Collaborate and check-in with your assigned tutor on a regular basis to discuss the plan for the day/week and what roles you would like the tutor to play (lead group activity, work with specific students.
- Exchange contact information and share your preferred contact method.
- Provide feedback on the tutor’s performance by completing two tutor evaluations per semester. If at any time you want to provide feedback on your tutor’s performance, please let us know ([email protected]).
- Please provide the tutor with a class roster so they can become more familiar with your students and keep track of the students they have worked with.
- Are there specific students the tutor should work with?
- Tutors are not to be left alone in the class without certificated staff.
